Food porn: poached shrimp at the Wine Bar and Bistro

I’m trying to catch up on all of my favorite Capital Region places before the Dude and I head off to Chicago for a few days to pack up my stuff and say goodbye to my dear ol’ Windy City. Then we hit the road for real, through Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada, etc to our new home in Santa Cruz.

High on my list of places to stop at while in the 518 was the Wine Bar and Bistro on Lark. ┬áThe patio there is my favorite in the area, hands down, and possibly my favorite of all time. It’s so relaxing back there, it totally makes you forget that you’re actually in Albany and not in some quaint little Mediterranean town. Also, I’m told by staff that approximately 80 percent of the menu is now gluten-free or can easily be made to be, and they offer GF pasta for any of the pasta dishes. Hooray!

So last week, I met up with my friend/doppelganger Ellie for a couple glasses of wine and a few bites to eat. I went for the poached shrimp with spicy Spanish chorizo dish because I wanted something on the light side for such a hot summer evening. I was particularly charmed by the sous vide egg yolk. Look what a perfect little ball it is! So cool!

I really just wish the wine bar were open for lunch. Have a great journey. Wish I could be going with you, but I had my turn out there.

Enjoy the boardwalk and the mystery spot. It’s a shame Bernard is no longer there giving tours. He was the best.
