I’ve made quite a few contacts in the burlesque scene through my work, and I’ve written about it numerous times, for a number of publications. I’ve been able to use some of my New York contacts to find sources here in Chicago for various graduate school projects.
A couple of weeks ago, I got a note from the fabulous Red Hot Annie of Vaudezilla that she and her troupe were performing at the Greenhouse Theater. I did a little video project involving Annie and drag queen Vallery Dolls last semester so she offered me a ticket on the house. In turn, I was able to get some footage for another project.
But the exciting gluten-free news was that in addition to beer and wine, the theater also had bottles of Strongbow. This made me extremely happy.
Unfortunately, much to my great chagrin, I missed the recent performance at Greenhouse of one of my favorite plays, Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House.” This Lakeview theater is definitely somewhere I’m hoping to visit again soon, perhaps for the upcoming Windy City burlesque festival. The rest of this month’s calendar can be found here. Oh and the folks of Vaudezilla perform frequently, so be sure to check ‘em out.
